Trench drains for airport

Heaviest duty products we offer for the most extreme applications. All of our extreme loads trench drain systems easily connect end-to-end to create a line (linear drainage system). Channels are equipped with built-in 90-degree connections on each side (no need for adapters). This allows you to build a more complex system than just a single line. Airport rated trench drains and extreme loads trench drains are difficult to obtain and Vodaland strives to make these rare products easily obtainable for our customers. Not only can these drains be used for airport drainage like at a municipal airport, but also can be used for heavy duty applications such as vehicle parking, commercial facilities, and for frequent passage of vehicles.

What is the length of each trench drain?

All Vodaland airport trench drains are 1-meter (3.28ft) lengths. Trench drains can be connected together for longer runs, and units can be cut to match specific sizing requirements.

Is the title width an internal or external dimension?

The width categories and all other width categories represent the internal width of channel, and the same applies to the depth sizes shown for each channel. External dimensions vary for each type of channel, and customers can view external dimensions through the spec drawings provided on each product page.

How do I connect the trench drains together?

We design all of our extreme loads trench drain channels to be connectable with each other via male-to-female connections. Depending on model, your trench drain may either “click” together, or simply fit together for connection. It is very important that all connections are silicone sealed.

How do I connect piping?

For piping, Vodaland designs our channels with outlets options on the bottom, sides, and ends. These outlets can be attached to 4” Schedule 40 PVC with an adapter we sell separately. If other piping is to be used, we recommend connecting them to the outlets via rubber couplings which are sold externally.

Do these need to be encased in concrete?

Vodaland recommends that our trench drain for airports be encased in concrete for optimum safety and maximum load bearing capacity of any airport type. Without proper encasement, the trench drain may not meet the max load ratings that the ductile iron trench grate is designed for.

Do your trench drain channels have slope?

All our fiber concrete and some polymer concrete trench drain channels have 0.5% and 1% slope. Slope is a recommended feature for proper drainage in airport trench drains.

Why is airport trench drainage important?

Airports need the safest environments for their larger planes to take-off, and so they require their runways to be as dry as possible for the best traction. That is why it is critical to integrate airport drainage systems into all runways to collect any flooding water. Without this collection, larger airports will deal with major delays and it can be a major safety issue.

What are the requirement for airport trench drain systems?

To meet the proper load bearing strength required for an international airport, in an airplane hangar, or on a runway, the grates need to be specially designed for the high stress environment. Safety requirements ask for high quality products and our ductile iron grates are designed with this in mind so that they are fit for airport projects. The airports trench drain needs to also have a large volume for the removal of storm water, just so that the airport can continue to operate in the worst of weather conditions. Our engineers have focused on these requirements during manufacturing to provide the most optimal product to our customers.

Is there a difference between a trench drain for extreme loads and a trench drain for airports?

Our trench drains for airports are also meant for any application for extreme loads, so they are one in the same. The only difference is that most airports require a certain volume of channel, so some of the smaller trench drains may not meet the requirements for an airport while meeting the requirement for extreme loads.

Available load classes for our trench drains:

Load Class A - Pedestrian foot traffic.

Load Class B - Residential vehicle traffic (no parking) and yard equipment.

Load Class C - Commercial vehicle traffic, residential vehicle parking, buses, and medium duty commercial equipment.

Load Class D - Highway road traffic and standard commercial equipment.

Load Class E - Heavy-duty road traffic and heavy-duty commercial equipment.

Load Class F - Most extreme traffic, airports, sea ports.
