Geocell/Geo grid Products

The Vodaland Geocell/Geo Ground Grid system is a robust plastic erosion control grid that is designed to stabilize soil and prevent the movement of various aggregates, including sand, gravel, stone, soil, mulch, and wood chips. This geocell/geo grid is installed to help hold in place aggregates on steep slopes and heavy-traffic areas, like parking lots.

The versatility and compatibility of geocell/geo grid system with different materials make it a valuable product for various applications, and its installation provides reinforcement to soil that is susceptible to erosion, including slope protection, walkways, retaining walls, driveways, foundation grids, horse paddocks, farming projects, athletic field slopes, commercial projects, and more.

Are the grids flexible? Can they curve and contour around obstacles?

The Geocell grids are crafted using highly flexible geo synthetic material that enables them to effortlessly conform to the landscape's natural contours, including hills and curves. The rebar hooker anchors provide essential support to the grid layer, ensuring its stability and long-term performance. The height of the cell walls is a critical factor that determines how easily the grid can contour and adapt to the terrain.

What aggregates can I use with the grid and is a base required?

Customers can use whichever aggregate they prefer with our erosion control product, but for vehicle loads or heavy pedestrian traffic, Vodaland recommends crashed stone as the only usable option. The best size of gravel for use with our geocell grids for erosion control is 3/4-inch.

It is recommended in all uses, that you lay a base layer of gravel beneath the grids. 2-3 inches of height for the gravel base is recommended. This is especially necessary for grid erosion control use under heavy traffic.

Can our Geocell Grids be cut or attached together?

Vodaland designed the grids to be easily customizable to match your desired lengths for slope erosion. The geocell grids come at a size of 8.4 ft x 19.7 ft, but if a smaller size is needed, customers can easily cut the grid with a utility knife. To attach the grids together, it’s as simple as looping zip-ties through the permeation holes of each grid. This provides customers with an economical construction method.

Do I need Anchors?

We recommend anchors for any project as they are needed to have cells open when you spread the grid over a surface. We offer cost-effective anchors in 2 sizes: 12-inch and 18-inch height. For the 8-inch height geocell, the 18-inch height anchor is the only compatible option. For 2-inch and 4-inch, the choice is yours based on your preference. The anchor is meant to hold the grid secure during aggregate pour, and then continues to provide reinforcement and ground stabilization to geocell. You can choose between anchors made of galvanized steel or plastic (high-density polymer). Both will do a perfect job holding your grid on flat ground or preventing erosion on slopes.

Do I need Geo-Textile?

We recommend our Geo-Textile Filter Fabric as a useful addition to your project. The geo-textile is installed beneath the geocell to assist with structural integrity and permeability, and also does a great job of preventing weed growth through the aggregate.

Will Geocell work to Reduce Slip on Sloped Driveways?

When faced with a steep slope, creating a driveway can be a challenging and costly task. With the use of Geocell, gravel on slopes can be transformed into a drivable surface in no time. These geocell grids are not only useful as an erosion control solution for floodwater and rainwater but can also prevent erosion caused by tire traffic. When gravel is used as sloped ground on roads, the tires will not be able to grip the gravel properly and risks slippage. By containing the infill material with our cellular confinement technology, you hold it in place, allowing tires to find proper grip and drive without delay.

How much does it cost to install GeoCell?

Geocell grids are an extremely cost-effective method for gravel and soil erosion prevention. The diamond grid can be filled quickly and is simple to install, meaning anyone with knowledge of ground services will be able to install it without issue. Simple tools, quick labor, and simple aggregates mean the overall costs will stay minimal.

Can the Geocell be used for flood prevention?

Geocell grids are not only useful in flood prevention but also for long-term soil reinforcement. These grids provide excellent soil stabilization, ensuring that the soil remains in place in case of flood emergencies. Geocell can be quickly installed to create flood barriers, eliminating the need for laborious sandbag filling. Additionally, using Geocell for soil erosion prevention can have a significant positive impact on the environment.

2-Inch GeoCell: can hold only pedestrian traffic and can be used up to 10-15 degrees in slope.

4-Inch GeoCell: can hold vehicle loads (with gravel only) and can be used up to 33 degrees of slope.

8-Inch GeoCell: can be used for any vehicle  traffic and all slope percentages up to 45 degrees. Primary application of this geocell is for retaining walls.

We offer 2 product lines of ground stabilizers that serve primarily the same purpose. Understanding their differences will guide you in choosing the most ideal for your project.

Height & Load Bearing:

  • Geocells are designed with focus on containing the aggregate that is receiving heavy loads and preventing erosion. For this reason, the grids have more height and it's focal point is tensile strength. (Height Options: 2-inch, 4-inch, 8-inch)
  • Permeable Pavers are designed with focus on withstanding the heavy loads themselves, and the aggregate is there just for consistency with the surrounding terrain. For this reason, the pavers are a thicker plastic and require less height. (Height Options: Hex = 1-inch / Easy = 2-inch)

Compatible Aggregates

  • Geocellscan use any aggregate for erosion control purposes, but only gravel can be used for vehicle loads or heavier. A gravel base is also required.
  • Permeable Pavers can use any aggregate for any situation, including for vehicle loads. A fine gravel or sand base is optional with the pavers, but is recommended for the most ideal install.

Installation

  • Geocells are best for large-scale projects that have rectangular shapes. The grids cut easy for specific sizes.
  • Permeable Pavers are best for smaller-scale projects that have non-standard shapes. The 3 square foot grids provide easier customizability for your project. Less base, aggregate, and configuration means that these grids are the quickest install of the two.

If you're interested in knowing the slope of your yard for choosing the right Geocell, this is the simplest method to do so:

What You'll Need:

- 2 Stakes
- 40 inches minimum of string
- Level
- Measuring Tape/Ruler

Steps:
1. Insert the stakes into your sloped terrain 40 inches apart. Make sure the stakes are parallel with the direction of slope. (The 40 inch distance is called your run) If your sloped area has significant changes in slope, measure at where the slope is the steepest.

2Tie your string to the higher stake right at where the stake enters the ground.

3. Tie the other end of the string to the lower stake so that the string looks level. Keep the knot on this end looser so that the string can be adjusted later on.

4. Use your level to ensure that your string is perfectly leveled. If not leveled, adjust the string from where it's tied at the lower stake until it is.

5. Measure the distance on the lower stake from the string to the ground beneath it. (This measurement is your rise and should be in inches as well)

6. To calculate the slope percentage of your land, follow this equation: %Slope = (Rise/Run) x 100

Erosion problems? Our Geocell is the solution. This erosion control system is made of Polyethylene and has a lifetime warranty. We supply three sizes (heights) of Geocell:

2” geocell – for home/landscaping/gardening applications. Often used for walking pathways.

4” geocell – for heavier loads, like parking pads, driveways, hill sides, shallow retaining walls and common erosion problems.

8” geocell – for steep erosion control, driveways (filled with 3/4" and larger gravel), retaining walls.

Sections come with 8.4 x 19.7 ft size (164.5 sq ft) and can be easily stretched and anchored down to the ground. Then, simply fill the geo ground grid with material that’s suitable to your application, such as soil, sand, crushed gravel, or large gravel and compact it.

OUR GEO WEB CAN BE ALSO USED FOR:

The installation of pavement cushions, slope reinforcement, and fixation of splays are just a few examples of how Geocell can be utilized.

These versatile grids are also ideal to stabilize coastlines, protect coastal areas, and much more. They can fix slope cones of railways and provide support for the construction of retaining walls, driveways, parking spaces, and other structures.

The use of Geocell significantly reduces construction costs while enhancing the reliability integrity, and long-term performance of various structures.
